This was my submission video for BCA. At the time, it was the biggest thing I’d done, and it taught me a lot. I would have greatly benefitted from having a choreographer to help me tell the story through movement. Instead, I went in with a vague idea of my concept and an amazing ballet dancer who was up for improvising in the dirt for the first time.
When I watch this piece, I see a lot of quick cuts and a lot of room for growth. But I also see a lot of me. And that’s what makes it one of my favorite pieces. I go back and watch it when I want to remind myself of what my artistic touch looks like.
Being in film school, it’s challenging to know my voice when I know each assignment will be graded. I find that I’m good at giving people what they want, and not so good at taking risks. But there’s little artistic fulfillment in that.
So having something that reminds me who I am and what I like helps to inspire me to keep searching within myself for those stories I want to tell. To take risks on my own time and keep exploring this crazy cinematic world.
