I’m Ariana :)
actress turned barista turned storyteller.
Since I was the little girl who fell in love with Tony from West Side Story, I’ve wanted to be an actress. Even was one for a bit. But shortly after graduating with my BFA in threatre arts, I had an encounter with God that threw all my serious acting plans out the window. There, at the foot of my bed as I read Genesis 22, I heard a soft but clear question: “Would you sacrifice your Isaac for me?” To which I responded, “Hold that thought.” I wasn’t about to give a “you betcha” to a question like that. You can probably guess how I answered though - a very painful but honest Yes. And so began a whirlwind adventure.
I always thought life had to have a plan for it to have purpose. It doesn’t. It needs relationship. It needs genuine connection with people and the divine. It needs to be full of play and depth. It needs us to reconnect with our inner kid that hears the voice of Love and responds, “Yes!” It needs us to have a perspective, a dream, and a voice. It needs us to be relational, present, and creative.
So two years ago, when I found myself yet again looking at a blank slate in my life, I took up a job as a barista and started to write. I was shocked to find words exploding from me. My heart was overflowing with poems - so much to say, pray, and process. I wrote so much I thought I would end up publishing a book, but my poems never seemed to fall into a single cohesive theme that I could slap a pretty bow on. But they were honest, and that’s who I want to be in the world. Honest, pure in my transparency, and thought provoking.
I don’t want to have all the answers. What a weight to have to carry! What I want is to give myself a voice. To join the universal conversation and spark a dialogue.
So here we land. A home for all my explosive creativity to live in all it’s depth, messiness, ridiculous humor, and honesty.
My hope, dear reader, is that it brings you something you need. Art is a medium that gives to all, creator and viewer—and that gift is an experience.
